Aliens in America: Day 19
Heaven Help Us
‘As aliens, live in reverent fear’ (1 Pet. 1:17)
Prayer is the best expression of our alien status. As we approach this election, we cry out to the Savior. He trumps our system of democracy! And works through it mysteriously.
Fun too that today is All Saints: host of heaven, have mercy on America.
Together with all the saints, we pray for the country we love:
‘Father, thank You for our freedom as citizens to worship You and to say so. In Your mercy, You’ve opened the eyes of our hearts to know ourselves as man and woman made in Your image, capable of chaste, creative love. Preserve America’s best: freedom of religion and speech.’
Together with all the saints, we pray for the rights of prenatal persons:
‘Thank You, Father, for America and her Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade. We honor, first and foremost, the right-to-life of prenatal persons. And we lift up Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Maryland, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, South Dakota, Nebraska, and New York, praying for the protection of prenatal life in these states.’
Together with all the saints, we pray for marital and sexual clarity:
‘Father, restrain every effort to undermine real marriage and family in America, and ensure that all have full access to chaste ways of resolving sexual identity conflicts.’
Together with all the saints, we pray for the dignity of immigrants:
‘Father, as aliens whom You made citizens of a heavenly kingdom, we ask that we might defend the rights of every immigrant in America.’
Together with all the saints, we pray for fair and just international policy:
‘Father, to whom much has been given, much will be required. May we sharpen and deepen our national commitment to defend the just rights of those oppressed by aggressive powers.’
Together with all the saints, we pray for a unified, joyful Church:
‘Father, You’ve entrusted to us a nonpartisan Kingdom that overflows from us to persons who seek Truth on whatever side of the political divide. May we discover afresh our unity as we extend Jesus’ free gift of living water and enfold all who will into the loving arms of the Church.’
‘Because of His great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in our transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved’ (Eph. 2:5).
‘Jesus, You are the King, and we are first citizens of Your Kingdom. Would you free us for You in this election season, not to hide but to shine? You’ve always asked nothing less from Your elect whom You have made ‘strangers in a strange land’ (Ex. 2:22). Here we are, a people who don’t know what to do but who look and listen to our King.
“Father of all holiness,
guide our hearts to You.
Keep in the light of Your Truth
all those You have freed from the darkness of unbelief.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son.”’
Amen
Beyond BEAUTIFUL. Thank you. My family and I are standing with you in these prayers today.
With gratitude,
