Mercy for the Truthful Church

40 Days of Mercy Devotional – Lent 2012 – Day 36

I will allow convents and churches to be destroyed…Souls without love and devotion, souls full of egoism and self-love, souls full of pride and arrogance, souls full of deceit and hypocrisy, lukewarm souls with just enough warmth to keep them alive. My Heart cannot bear this…I cannot stand them because they are neither good or bad…If they do not repent and become enkindled by their first love, I will deliver them over to the fate of this world. (1702)

Those lost on that evil day will be vindicated by the God of Mercy and Justice. In the meantime, ‘let judgment begin in the house of God.’ (1P. 4:17)

Because you are lukewarm, neither hot or cold, I am about to spit you out of My Mouth. You say, ‘I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.’ But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked. I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see. (Rev. 3: 16-18)

Jesus, test our truth with the power of Your Mercy. Cause us to repent if we who know and honor the truth dishonor it with our lives. Wash us clean. We are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked. We repent unto Your Mercy. Let the truth of our failure to live by the truth shatter us; raise what pleases You.

Mercy for the Worldly Church

Mercy for the Worldly Church

40 Days of Mercy Devotional – Lent 2012 – Day 35

O my Jesus, I beg You on behalf of the whole Church, give us holy priests. You Yourself, maintain them in holiness. O Divine and Great High Priest, may the power of Your mercy accompany them everywhere and protect them from the devil’s traps and snares which are continually set for the souls of priests. May the power of Your Mercy, O Lord, shatter and bring to naught all that might tarnish the sanctity of priests, for You can do all things. (1052)

I have this against you: You tolerate that woman Jezebel who calls herself a prophetess. By her teaching, she misleads my servants into sexual immorality. I have given her time to repent of her immorality but she is unwilling. So I will cast her on a bed of suffering, and I will make those who commit adultery with her to suffer intensely unless they repent of their ways. I will strike her children dead. (Rev. 2: 20-23)

Grant us a holy fear, O God, of worldly love that masks as ‘holy’. We are sick in our sin, unable to do Your will because we lack truth and discipline. Would you grant us Mercy to repent? And would You raise up repentant leaders who would lead others in genuine holiness and wholeness? Grant us holy leaders, and may each of us do our part to ensure their well-being.

Mercy for the Church

Mercy for the Church

40 Days of Mercy Devotional – Lent 2012 – Day 34

What a joy it is to be a faithful child of the Church! O how much I love Holy Church and all those who live in it! I look upon them as living members of Christ, who is their Head. I burn with love with those You love; I suffer with those who suffer. I am consumed with sorrow with those who are cold and ungrateful. (511)

Things that cause people to sin are bound to come, but woe to those through whom they come. It would be better for him to be thrown into the sea with a millstone around his neck than for him to cause one of these little ones to sin. So watch yourselves. (Lk. 17: 1-3)

Jesus, give us Your heart for Your body. Open our eyes to her beauty and her brokenness, that we might love her well. Make us mature gifts to the Church; help us to discern both good and evil, and to love her wisely with all the Mercy You have shown us in our many contradictions.

I put up with this Church in the hope that one day it will become better, just as it is constrained to put up with me in the hope that one day I will become better. Erasmus

Mercy for Minors

40 Days of Mercy Devotional – Lent 2012 – Day 33

Truth wears a crown of thorns. (1103)

Do not move an ancient boundary stone, or encroach on the fields of the fatherless, for their Defender is strong; He will take up their case against you. (Pr. 23:10,11)

We fight for the integrity of marriage in order to vie for the virtue of children.

Father, we acknowledge You as the Defender of children against every kind of evil. Forgive our pursuit of false liberty; open our eyes to its powerful impact upon the least powerful. Open the eyes of the morally blind, and their defenders; lead them to Your Mercy before it’s too late. Empower us, Your merciful ones, to advocate for children. Send Your Spirit of adoption to those subject to perversion against their will. Protect and enfold them, O Shepherd of the sheep. Carry them near to Your heart.

 Mercy for Marriage

40 Days of Mercy Devotional – Lent 2012 – Day 32

O Jesus, You do not give a reward for the successful performance of a work, but for the good will and the labor undertaken. Therefore, I am completely at peace, even if all my efforts and undertakings shall be thwarted or even come to naught. (952)

Life is a continuous dying, and at the same time, it is the depth of inconceivable happiness and the strength of the soul; because of this, the soul is capable of great deeds for God. (856)

If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there’, and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you. (Matt. 17: 20, 21)

Jesus, make us content to be faithful; in obedience, we succeed amid the most painful of losses. Make us resolute in Your promises, and patient in bearing with them until they are realized.
