A Christian Voice In A Changing Culture

Pray for 2943 and Asia

Friends,

I am just finishing a wonderful break with Annette and children and grandkids; I leave tomorrow with Abbey for our first Living Waters Training in Ubon Thailand. Ubon, near the Laos border, is a Buddhist stronghold with extremely limited Christian presence. We delight in all who will join us there, including leaders and participants from churches in six other Asian nations. Please pray for our freedom on all fronts to love and serve Southeast Asia wisely. Your prayers enable us to renew our commitment to releasing Living Waters there. Pray:

Special grace for Abbey who at the last minute agreed to lead all musical worship (as well as to lead a small group and teach.) The girl is a marvel but also human….

For Tom and Terri Wright, seasoned Living Waters leaders from Virginia who will serve us and share as a couple: this is their first international ministry trip together. Pray for extraordinary blessing on them and clarity for mission.

For our amazing leader in Ubon, Sue Hunt, who has been among the most faithful and fruitful of international Living Waters leaders. She has envisioned this training for a long time and has worked steadily and well in the Spirit to ensure its reality. Pray for her joy, stamina, and wisdom in discerning what God is doing in her land through this training.

Lastly, the California legislature reconvened this week though as yet we do not know when and how 2943 will be introduced for a senate vote. Pray for the bill’s dismissal or its extreme modification. Either could happen.

Last week the Massachusetts legislature failed to pass its efforts to ban ‘reparative therapy’ for minors due to lefty infighting. (And from the state that introduced ‘gay marriage’ to America!)

This is not a good season for any government body that imposes serious, unnecessary limits on the moral decision-making of its citizens. Keep praying and we will keep you posted.

Surrounded

“‘Go in the strength you have…am I not sending you?’ ‘But my family is the weakest and I am the least in my family…’ ‘I will be with you’, says the Lord.” (Judges 6:14-16)

I write in weakness; amid our busiest season of international ministry, Jesus has called me to do my part to combat AB 2943, up for vote this June in the California legislature. I combat this clever bit of fascism so that ‘every person experiencing same-sex attraction or gender dysphoria might be allowed to pursue help in achieving desired goals and outcomes.’

The golden state wants to decide our sexual destinies for us. Each of us must effort to keep the path clear for choice. Let us fight for choice together.

Would you please pray in the next couple days today for a press conference we shall be having tomorrow in Orange County, CA at 11am PST (Tuesday the 29th)?

I touch down for a moment in Kansas City after a heavenly training in Krakow Poland and leave soon for this important gathering in Santa Ana sponsored by Pastors United (check it out) where many like me who will testify to the glorious splendor of Jesus’ Kingdom—how He offered Himself as our way forward for sexual wholeness.

Weak, I am surrounded. I have dug wells of ‘living water’ in Southern California for decades; in this dry and weary land, I now experience the refreshment of the saints. Many of my best friends are wounded healers in CA who after years of chaste living and serving the broken in churches will testify alongside of me.

What joy! Alone we are weak, prone to wander, but together the Jesus who is present to the weak empowers us through the gift of one another. Together we sing a resounding hymn of praise that spans octaves of His faithful love in our messy lives. On one point we are utterly clear. Jesus met us in mercy and laid the foundation for a whole new way of loving. In California! There the Creator became our Redeemer; He gave us back our beauty. Let us make that way clear for generations of Californians-to-come.

Pray please, now for tomorrow, 11am PST, Tuesday the 29th. Thank you.

Outlawing Gender Integration in California

‘We give you strict orders not to teach in His name.’ Peter and John replied: ‘Judge for yourselves whether it is right in God’s sight to obey you rather than God. For we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard…We must obey only God and not men!’ (Acts 4:18-20; 5:29)

Wake up people. The bill best designed to outlaw Christian efforts to help persons resolve gender identity problems is racing through the California legislature as you read this. AB 2943 prohibits all conferences, teachings, or publications (where money is exchanged for the resource) aimed at helping people to overcome same-sex attraction or gender dysphoria. This impacts every pastor, counselor, friend, or family member in California.

Most chillingly, it slams the door on citizens whose conscience guides them to make peace with their bodies as designed by God. The California legislature wants to deny them that choice. Today the Assembly will decide if the state has the right to insist that the only option for Californians with gender identity problems is to transition into the ‘gay’ or ‘trans’ self. Though these are standard values in much of the clinical community, California is seeking to make them the only values. This is an affront to moral liberty.

It sounds preposterous, I know. When I first heard of this bill, I assumed it implausible, dead on arrival. Instead, AB 2943 raced through the first two committees in spite of valiant testimonies by friends Dr. Joseph Nicolosi Jr., Anne Paulk of Restored Hope Network, and Bethel Redding’s Elizabeth Woning and Ken Williams. These last three witnessed persuasively to the power of Jesus and His community to restore true identity but were stonewalled by representatives who only asked sympathetic questions of those claiming abuse at the hands of bad helpers, valid issues for clinical ethics but irrelevant to the rights of persons to choose the kind of help (s)he desires!

According to Ken Williams, ‘the freight train is here, barring persons from the right to help and to heal gender identity problems. This is the first day I have felt discriminated against, robbed of my freedom to hold to my convictions. The government is now seeking to mandate what I do with my sexuality.’

Every person deserves the freedom to exercise moral authority over his or her body and desires. I may boldly disagree with Ellen Degeneres’ and Rupaul’s identity choices (just as they do mine!) but I grant them freedom to make them. We as Americans share constitutional freedoms of worship and speech. According to the Supreme Court, ‘the proudest boast of our free speech jurisprudence is that we protect the freedom to express the thought we hate.’

Church, wake up. AB 2943 roused Bethel Redding to mobilize their people to engage gently and well with political representatives. Might I ask all Christians in California–Catholics, Orthodox, Baptists, Pentecostals—to invite their fellows to persuade elected officials to vote against this bill? (See californiafamily.org) If this bill passes, the state officially denies Jesus’ will for our sexual humanity and His power to redeem it.

Today, Monday the 16th, at 9am, the lower house of the CA legislature will vote on AB 2943; if passed, it will go to the senate then to the governor. Pray for a miracle of God’s justice. Or that such a preposterous bill, if passed, will be fast-tracked to the Supreme Court.

Pray that a renewed Church will unite and arise in California as a result of this enslaving legislation. Nothing short of our freedom of speech and worship– our right to decide the man or woman we will become–are at stake. If we lose, may we become holy outlaws who obey God, not man, with words and deeds of fire.

‘Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable Your servants to speak Your word with great boldness. Stretch out Your hand to heal and perform miraculous signs and wonders through the name of Your holy servant Jesus’ (Acts 4:29, 30).

Zeal for our House

Jesus casts out robbers from His Father’s house for us. That starts with the integrity of our personal temples. He cares about our dignity as male and female and hates that dignity to be defiled. Though we are made in His image, that image is marred and He gives all to redeem it. We must do our part. When others obstruct our efforts at becoming who He made us to be, they infuriate Him; Jesus acts decisively to cast out those robbers.

Such robbery is on full display in the California legislature. Three bills are up for a vote one week from Monday (April 9th) and each bill bars human beings from securing the help they need to become integrated gendered beings. Please pray with us this Holy Week that Jesus might hear our prayers and vanquish these robbers. Consider:

AB 1779: Six years after CA led the nation in outlawing helpers from offering clinical service to minors seeking to overcome unwanted same-sex attraction, legislators are now trying to impose this violation of personal rights on adults too, starting here. This bill would ban any adult under guardianship from securing help for same-sex attraction or gender dysphoria. The narrow application here (adults under legal care of another adult) is a bridge that will be used in the future to ban all services for adults seeking help to overcome same-sex attraction or dysphoria. California cannot afford make outlaws of skilled Christian helpers for the broken!

AB 2943 is worse. This bill prohibits the sale of any resources that aim to reduce same-sex attraction or gender dysphoria. That means all publications, healing or counseling resources, conferences, and teaching opportunities that involve financial cost. This outrageous bill is designed to obstruct any Christian who helps others overcome gender identity disorders; it equally bars persons who seek to align themselves with God’s design for their humanity. It is a slam on free speech and enterprise and mostly, the rights of persons to choose to heal.

AB 2119: Any child in CA foster care must only be offered counseling and medical help that lines up with the gender that the child wants to be. That would outlaw good sense—the truth that we have a gender ordination and that it is physically, psychologically, and spiritually impossible to change gender. A child’s confusion leading to gender mutilation and misery is being enacted here. It is child abuse.

Gratefully, Jesus is stirring up zeal for human dignity, the houses God entrusts to each of us. That applies to today and to the dignity of future generations. Anne Paulk of Restored Hope Network, the Bethel Church Redding, Lou Engel and his intercessory prayer force, and hundreds of Christians are fighting in Sacramento and on their knees to ensure that Jesus and His people vanquish these bills.

Would you join us in praying that these bills come to nothing on Monday April 9th? If you are a Californian, would you contact your assembly person and gently express your opposition to this legislation?

Satan rages against the beauty of God in humanity, and employs well-intentioned persons to do his will. Let’s stop his robbery of human dignity by opposing this legislation.
